A specially commissioned festival performance resulting from a collaboration between Manchester-based vocalist, Emmanuela Machozi Yogele (Beating Wing Orchestra) and Midlands based trio, Village Well (Pritam Singh, Zirak Hamad and Norman Stewart). The resulting compositions reflect the diversity of the musicians involved (DR Congo, India, Iraqi-Kurdistan and the UK).
Samuel Yirga knows a thing or two about determination and overcoming obstacles. As a child and teenager growing up in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, all he dreamt about was becoming a musician. His parents were strictly against this and wanted him to study to become a doctor or engineer. When they forbid him to attend music school auditions his sister luckily helped him to sneak out.
Two bites of the cherry that is World Village signing and exiting young African talent Diabel Cissokho who will be appearing at St Ethelburga’s on Friday 30th and Sat 31st March. Friday will be an outing with his band, Saturday a duo with slide guitarist Ramon Goose. Diabel Cissokho’s new album, recorded with his family band in London and Dakar, is a fresh take on traditional Senegalese village music – elementally funky, a great life affirming sound. The CD, Kanbory Siyama, will be released by World Village in April to coincide with Diabel’s UK tour.
Soundway Records announce 10 year anniversary East London tropical warehouse party. To kick off a year of 10 year anniversary celebrations Soundway Records announce the first of several special events happening around the world this year. Taking place in a secret East London warehouse venue on 20th April , 'Dancing Time With Soundway: 10 year anniversary party' will see the unstoppable Quantic celebrating the release of his latest cumbia project on Soundway 'Los Miticos Del Ritmo'. Portuguese / Angolan Batida will be bringing his electric live show to London for the first time featuring dancers, MCs, VJ, live samples and percussion. Batida's eponymous debut album comes out on 26th March through Soundway Records.
