The Battle of the Bands, let the next round begin

A cost effective way to discover new talent or a career breakthrough opportunity - or both. World Music Network have announced the opening of the latest round in the The Battle of the Bands. Get your tracks in for a chance to feature on their comp " The Rough Guide to Undiscovered World". Previous winners have gone on to record an album in the "Introducing Series..." managed by sister company Riverboat Records. All tracks need to be received by 1st March 2012 .

The Mary Ward Centre have a twelve week introductory course on world music. An introduction to and exploration of the world's diverse music cultures. Examining the ways that music both shapes and is shaped by its cultural settings, this course will foster a curiosity for and appreciation of the world's music. In June 2011 Melstar travelled to Liverpool to report from the Africa Oye festival, the biggest annual gathering of African artists in Europe. A few artists were already on her radar, none more so than Fatoumata Daiwara, at Oye to make her UK debut as a solo artist. Yaayyyyy after a six month break GondwanaSound is back with cod ethno muso ramblings, mispronunciations, politics but above all news and reviews of some of the best music on the planet.

The first broadcast is Monday January 9th at 14:00 live from the studios of Sheffield Live! 93.2FM we're excited and nervous and hope that broadcasting is rather like riding a bicycle, once the skill is learnt its never forgotten.
