Catalina Island Performing Arts launch "world" music festival

catalinaIf you're geographical knowledge of islands is like mine, let me save you the trouble, this one's off the Californian coast(San Pedro/Long Beach area.) The resident performing arts foundation has put together their first world music festival, organised by Aaron Pitts, the programme director of KISLFM community radio it will take place on 25th October.

Their website reports, "The Catalina Island Performing Arts Foundation has been sharing the performing arts with Catalina Island, California, since 1996. On-island live presentations, excursions to mainland performances and sponsorship of island performing arts programs are just a few of the many ways we have been bringing the performing arts to Catalina Island’s residents and visitors."

Artists scheduled include:
* Blackjack: Local Bluegrass favorites
* Johnny Cruzial and the Renounz: Reggae
* Benny and the Swamp Gators: Bayou zydeco
* Skelpin: classic Irish with a Mediterranean groove
* Fishtank Ensemble: Italian, Russian and Balkan gypsy jazz
* Gtonic: Afro-Latin funk
* Delta Nove: Brazilian rock reggae

CIPAF also supports community radio, operating KISL-FM 88.7. The station features an eclectic mix of world music, community shows and local radio personalities. You can listen to one of their Adventures in the Arts, on the air at KISL-FM.
