It is hoped that Calypso Rose will at last enjoy international recognition with the release of her new, self titled album "Calypso Rose" produced by Maturity Music and released in Europe by World Village. Taking in ska, mento, reggae as well as a reworking of "Say a Little Prayer" with many self penned tracks, a soulful move away from her previous Eddy Grant drenched and produced album, Soca Diva. McCartha Lewis, nomme de guerre Calypso Rose - "the mother of all flowers" - has been the undisputed Calypso queen for the last forty years. Born in the tiny island of Tobago she began singing at the age of fifteen. She worked her way up in the male dominated world of the Calypso, succeeding through indominatable personality, charisma on stage and great verbal dexterity. in 1966 she wrote "Fire In Meh Wire" which became an international calypso anthem translated into eight languages and in 1977 she became the first woman to be crowned Calypso Monarch (the yearly competition originally called Calypso King :re-named Calypso Monarch after the triumph of Calypso Rose) and won the Road March title (the song most played in the street during Carnival).

Rose went on to become an international ambassador for Calypso. Sharing international stages with the most popular stars of the music world such as Miriam Makeba, Tito Puente, Mahalia Jackson, Michael Jackson, Roberta Flack, Bob Marley and many others. Her musical catalogue includes various styles of music from social and political commentary to fete songs, jump up, soca, gospel and now reggae, ska and soul. Calypso Rose has received more awards and medals than any other calypsonian alive from governments and city mayors from TrinFdad. New York, Washington, London and Africa More recently she stole the show in Calypso @ Dirty Jim’s the documentary and stage project where she 'put on fire' European audiences at many prestigious venues including the Cirque d’Hiver in Paris, the Barbican in London and WOMEX in Seville.
