18th March - Juke Box Jury , chilled sounds and an appeal

[simplenews]

Hello, well what a week it has been I feel like we are living on some precipice with such unrest in the Middle East, devastation for the people of Japan, the additional fear of a nuclear meltdown and now my dog is in the vets having a biopsy....

Its kind of tricky playing music at times like this but I will be joined in the studio by GondwanaFriends James and Joe. Regulars will know James Poulter for his contributions and reviews on the website - now you get the chance to hear his voice....and Joe Reynolds who is one of the main stays and creative forces behind the Frozac world music parties here in Sheffield.

We'll be bringing some new releases from Bombino, The Karindula Sessions album, Tamikrest, a couple of cuts from our album of the week "Sigh of the Moor" from the Jadid Ensemble based in Manchester plus a couple of picks from James and a couple from Joe - we'll be mulling over them all, in Juke Box Jury style - or at least that's the plan.

If you're looking to take in some live music then come and join us at the Frozac Shoes Off chilled out party night
with Two Man Ting playing live to celebrate their new album.

If you are looking for inspiration then the UK release of the film Benda Bilili is finally here, we previewed it at the Sheffield Doc Fest - it's amazing, what an outcome!
Its playing at the showroom cinema 18th March and Mulembas African dance group will be there to get the party going afterwards.

The Bollywood legend Asha Bhosle is playing three UK dates we played a track from her new album last week

and finally....GondwanaSound comes to you unfunded and we do everything thanks to the goodwill of record labels, artists and promoters who provide us with the information and music to make the shows. But we couldn't do it without our broadcast partner Sheffield Live and here's how you can help. If you are an artist or promoter and you appreciate the work we do on GondwanaSound and on Sheffield Live then please become a Friend of Sheffield Live. If you are a music fan then GondwanaSound endeavours to bring you at least 52 hours of global roots and grooves in a year - its got to be worth becoming a friend of Sheffield Live. The station will be having a spring campaign but in the meantime you can visit
http://www.sheffieldlive.org/friends/ and support our programming.

Hope you hear something you like.
