4th March 2011 - Le Tout Puissant GondwanaSound

[simplenews]

Hello,

Hope you have had a good week. Okay so I am getting a bit carried away with the new Orchestre Polyrythmo album, and thought a name change this week may be appropriate.

We've been enthralled by the latest release from Crammed - the Karindula Sessions and if this was TV I could share some extracts form the accompanying DVD, filmed by Vincent Kennis. These dancers take winding and grinding to new levels plus there's this kid who busks whilst a bicycle wheel revolves on his head. How on earth he hasn't got a permanent hole in his skull I don't know... there's an extract from the DVD on the website with a teaser video

Sorry I haven't kept up with the images to go with the news items, this week has flown by and I have been wrestling with time, work, young son and commuting...it will all come together soon....I promise..

What I was thrilled to receive in my in tray is details of the Women of the World concert on March 12th, at the Royal Albert Hall with amongst others Annie Flore Batchiellilys from the Gabon ...wooooo try and get to it she is one heck of a singer and one of my favourites.

and talking of women Asha Bohsle will be playing three UK dates to clebrate the release of her new album, its on its way and we'll play something next week as part of our International Women's Day celebrations along with a podcast with Pacific Curls who have been booked to play the Rainforest World music festival....but that's next week.

This week we'll be rebroadcasting the piece on the Rough Guide to the Music of Afghanistan with Simon Broughton to tie in with Music Freedom Day. There are, alas so many examples of musical supression, death threats and destruction of instruments in Afghanistan that the day could be dedicated to musicians trying to express themsleves in Afghanistan. Please check the website http://wwww.freemuse.org for more information about the day and for stories from musicians who try to make a difference. I'll be including a track from the Listen to the Banned album and something from Joe La Conscience. http://www.dibussi.com/2008/04/joe-la-conscien.

Anyway I have just heard a tap on the wall which means its time to shut down and get some sleep before heading into the studio tomorrow.

Hope you can join me live on Sheffield Live! 93.2FM and
http://www.sheffieldlive.org

Cheers
Jill
