6th May 2011 ...back to the eighties

[simplenews]

Hello, I hope you have had a good week.

Well I'm not homeless, we've settled on Vellum Parchment for the walls at our humble abode at GondwanTowers. We've been busy updating the website, there seems to be a trend for limited edition releases - Analog Africa have announced two simultaneuous releases on their new "limited" Dance Edition series - not so long ago World Circuit produced a limited run of some Ali Farka Toure rarities for world record store day and just today I received an email from Mr Page plugging "A Life in Film" the limited edition vinyl run of some Syriana remixes and previously unpublished tracks.

There seems to be plenty going down on the live music front keep a check on the what's on section and if you're up north in these next two weeks do check out The Cultural Collage Festival in Manchester.

Other live picks are the Grupo Lokito tour, Group Doueh, back from Western Sahara, the JuJu album launch and of course and of course the long anticipated Balkan Brass Battle between Boban i Marko Markovic and Fanfare Ciocarlia. We feature tracks from both contenders on this week's broadcast.

Along with a track from the new release Haunting Bazaar from Teymour Housego, a bansuri playing son of a diplomat who draws on his life experience of Delhi. A big future in front of him, especially if Ravin picks up on the tracks.

We also play tracks form the nominees of the corss cultural category of the Songlines Music Awards and announce the winners.

Our album of the week is the superb double comp from Nascente " 80's World Music Classics" what a fab trip down memory lane. With 26 tracks, its a couple of shows in itself, an impossible task to just pick three tracks for today's broadcast.

If you missed last week's broadcast, Olivia's Worldwide wedding special its available as a podcast on the website.
