For those of you who haven't got on the Vintage tip yet, Jacqui Wickes will be performing as part of the Halifax festival for one night only at the Square Chapel in Halifax in a special perfomance with Kevin James. This is the first time they will have performed as a duo, although Jacqui says, " strictly speaking there will be three of us in the relationship :-) ... the third member of our merry band being The Square Chapel's lovely Steinway Piano". Kevin James, jazz pianist, composer and arranger. Has worked as an accompanist and solo artist at festivals and jazz clubs the length and breadth of the UK and abroad. Passionate about narrative song and the marriage of words and music, his favourite composers are Duke Ellington and Stephen Sondheim. Kevin is currently writing his second musical, set during Tang Dynasty China. For “Green Mountain”, inspired by the life and poetry of Li Bai, Kevin is creating a distinctive soundscape, marrying French Impressionism with 1960s folk-rock.
Jacqui continues, "It's a rare and wonderful thing to be able to unleash all the colours and musical textures of a grand piano and since the privilege of recording on Barkley Mckay's 1940s Welmar we haven't encountered such a lovely 'Joanna'. I know that many of you are fans of Kevin's playing so please don't miss this opportunity to hear our repertoire unleashed in such a lovely environment."
