New release for Nuru Kane, Number One Bus, on Iris Records

Press Release : New release, Number One Bus ,for Senegalese singer Nuru Kane, who came to prominence after his Festival in the Desert appearance in 2004. Attracting the attention of Riverboat Records who signed him up for his first international release, "Sigil", which came out in 2006. His trademark use of the Moroccan guimbri, adding a gnawa strain to his Senegalese rhythms, quickly established Nuru as a major talent. Read full article for all the press release.

Resident for three years in South London, Nuru played many UK gigs and earned a reputation as a fine live performer. His regular journey from Bermondsey to Highbury & Islington on London buses is memorably related on the title track of this new, second, album, a travel ditty surely up there with “Route 66” and Billy Bragg’s “A13”! Overall the new album bears a more distinct bluesy feel, whilst retaining the Senegalese-Onawa core intrinsic to his sound.

Nuru was nominated as Best Newcomer at the 2007 BBC Awards for World Music.
