Album of the week : Legacy from Two Man Ting on 2 Boot Music
Welcome to another round the world music adventure. Our album of the week is Legacy from the fabulous Two Man Ting who bring us sparkling maringa, palm wine and highlife grooves alongside delicious guitar playing, inspired djembe rhythms, witty observations and the Mende wisdom passed on by a mum from Sierra Leone. But we open with the matriarch of the blues, Etta James who sadly left us last week. Strong female vocalists follow with Hazel Dickens and Rhiannon Giddens who hits those high notes with Carolina Chocolate drops who up the pace with an exciting version of Ruby...are you mad at your man? With the mighty Baobab playing two UK dates, we play a couple of cuts from their album Made in Dakar. Its a year since the beginning of the "Arab Spring" and as such we pay tribute to a young Tunisian hip hop artist who's underground political rant became the overground anthem of their revolution. We finish off in the Middle East out of time but hoping that the people of Syria will soon be dancing. Enjoy!
