European World Music Charts.
The first broadcast of the month, so we take a look at the European World Music Charts as compiled by world music night. It's also the time of the year when things hot up gig wise and for new releases. The pick of the new releases comes from Jamie Renton's Chilli Fried top ten playlist and we also tuck in a couple of picks from Rare and Racey, purveyors of antiquarian books and with a large collection of international music.
We received our preview a little late this month which has meant we were unable to get all the top 20 in time for broadcast. One day we will have a full house !
As we have been gearing up for the Musicport fesitval in Bridlington later this month our new releases are taken form Jamie Renton's Chilli Fried top ten. Linking up with ALex Stewart's Flying Carpet the Flying Chilli beats will be entertaining Musicport's Saturday night dancefloor crowds.
Rare and Racey, of Devonshire Green, Sheffield, have supplied us with two of their picks, another comp from the radio knob twiddling, Sublime Frequences crew from the West Coast of America, who have compiled over 40 moments from Myanmar radio - jingles, promos, ads, cover versions which I actually found really entertaining. Maybe I should do the same with Sheffield Live!93.2FM. Their second choice was Pancho Quinto's unique cross of rythmic and harmonic elements, rarely heard in contemporary music and featuring innovations in Cuban Rumba.....we can always expect something from the raod less travelled with Rare and Racey.
