Album of the week : Victor Deme on Chapa Blues

There seems to be a theme of guitars, sand dunes and pipes as in bagpipes not sea waves. Returning form a holiday in the Border region of Northumberland we kick off with some regional tunes. we follow the sand dunes of Northumberland to Niger and link guitars around the world.
WE also fit in music that will help pay and secure sanitation for one person from Africa for their entire life, there's a tribute to Fela Kuti born this day 1938 andfinally we squeeze in a bit of the Flying Chilli podcast form Alex Stewart.

Our album of the week comes from Victor Deme, released on the Chapa Blues label is remarkable on a number of levels. Firstly that it is his first recording and secondly for its gentle understatement, a powerful beauty that is a testament to his self determination and belief in his own style.

The interview with Etran Finitiawa, the union of two nomadic peoples, took place the Wychwood festival 2006, after they returned from their first successful international tour. Ghalitane Khamidoune speaks on behalf of the Toureg members and Bagui Bouga for the Wodaabe, Sarah Fox -Pitt, who was travelling with them, very kindly offered to translate for us. We find out how they came together, what is unique about their sound and of course the all important question about the Wodaabe makeup.

Yes and we had a couple of requests.

Hope you hear something you enjoy and I look forward to you joining us for the live broadcasts every Wednesday 10 - midday on Sheffield Live! 93.2FM or http://www.sheffieldlive.org
