Album of the week: Bonga with Bairro on Lusafrica.
We had a surprise interview with Musheir today giving an eye witness report of life in Gaza before the current onslaught of violence. Some of the issues he raised left me speechless. I couldn't seem to get occupation and conflict off the playlist today, starting with a condemnation of the filthy bloody arms trade from Odetta, followed by a testament to the human spirit and resiliance, some music from Tiris, Lani Singers and Dam. our album of the week comes from Bonga and we play some more of your top tens for 2008, from DJ Umb, Judith De Boer and Sue Miller.
Today or top tens for 2008 come from Judith De Boer a regular listener from the Netherlands and inventer of the term GondwanaTime. DJ Umb, the electroglobal beats meister and Sue Miller, band leader of Charangue del Norte and our Cuban reviewer.
We start a new feature for 2009 our music blog of the month. This month we've been busy gathering some of the vintage sounds from Moos's Global Groovers, stay tuned this month, for Disco Fuentes, Asonia, Son Afric, Syliphone, Egrem...vintage vinyl from the crates and fairs all posted on line for our enjoyment, rare vinyl has never been so common.
