Jali Fily Cissokho has recently returned from Senegal where, in the oral tradition of the griots, he spent time researching and learning more material from the family archives. Now back in the UK, Fily and his kora, will grace the same stage as Bonga, Chiekha Rimitti, Amadou and Mariam, Seu Jorge and Tinirawen as he brings the griot tradition to the intimacy of London's Momo.
Showcasing new compositions alongside some of his favourite road tested tunes. This will be a night to remember for fans and newcomers to Fily's music alike.
" I just love Fily's voice. When he sings it's as if he is singing my kora back to me. He understands my music because he is also a Griot and plays the kora." Toumani Diabete
"Doumajoulo by UK-based kora player Jali Fily Cissokho passes all the tests, full of distinctive songs that are well-played and well-sung." Charlie Gillet
"A great album, full of warmth and depth and happy vibes." Tim Healey Oxford Folk Festival
" There's certainly a lot to admire on album tracks such as JALIA and UMBALAFEYLE TETAMBULO, but it's only when you hear them lurch into shape in concert that you can appreciate the full potential of the ensemble." Con Murphy fRoots
Fily is simply a delight.
