Back in the studios live for a run through of February's European World Music Charts, nine new entrants and a new number one ...oh yes and lots of brass in one form or another.
But first, it would be rude not to play something from the Demon Barber who won the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, Best Live Act. There's a cut from Jah Wobble's Chinese Dub, Emmanuel Jal's tribute to Emma and we also have a new music blog of the month.
Never let it be said I don't play enough folk or country music on GondwanaSound. Our music blog of the month, Old Weird America is an exploration of American Folk music using the Harry Smith boxed set " The Anthology of American Folk" as the starting point.
In his own words, "I’ll use Harry Smith’s numerical order starting from the number one performance in the Anthology, “Henry Lee” by Dick Justice and end (someday…) with “Fishing Blues” by Henry Thomas. Each time, I’ll try to collect interesting links on the artist and on the song performed. There will be other performances by the artist and different versions of the selected song that I have access to."
