The Sharrow Festival runs from 20th June to 4th July this year, culminating in a day event at Mount Pleasant Park with many fringe events organised in between. Amongst the music acts booked for the day are: Sajid Ahmed Khan Qawwali Group, Abelwell reggae band and Robert Maseko and his Congo Beats plus local bands, Mojo and the Beatniks and the Nazdrove House band plus more.

ImageThese musicians are the foremost British based exponents of Qawwali music an artform performed around the Sufi shrines of Muslim Saints in India and Pakistan and brought into prominence in the West by Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. Sajid Ahmed Khan comes from a long and famous line of Qawwali singers.

His performances sweep audiences into a trance with scintillating renderings of devotional ecstatic sufi mystical poetry in his own unique melodic style accompanied by harmonium tabla Dholak and rythmic handclap and improvised vocal back up from his group. This performance is supported by the Asian Music Circuit www.amc.org.uk

Prince Robert Maseko has recently been cooking it up in London with the release of his new cd, last year at Sharrow Festival a power cut couldn't hold back the energy, imagine what's in store from Robert Maseko and his Congo beats with a full PA...lets hope for good dancing weather.
