Album of the week : Neuvos Sonidos Afro Peruanos from Radio Kijada on Wrasse Records.

Welcome to another round the world music adventure.

Today is the International Day of Remembrance for the victims of the Transatlantic Slave trade. So we open with some relevant tracks, I trust they do the day justice. Tying in with today's remembrance our album of the week is rooted in the music of the African slaves taken to Peru. Creative and inventive when their drums were burnt or confiscated, they developed percussion instruments from church collection boxes, mule jaw bones and fruit crates.

Hear the interview with one half of Radio Kijada, Christoph Muller who some of you will know through his work as part of the Gotan project. Discover the connection with the Gotan and Sheffield !

We also have another piece featuring Karl Dallas. As a music journalist for the Melody Maker and got to know many musicians well. Here he talks about John Martyn, the man and his music.

We fit in a few favourites and welcome our apprentices to the studio. Jackie and Ralph Patel will be joining me over the coming weeks getting to know the studio layout before standing in while a go on maternity leave....
