Welcome to another round the world music adventure with its compass pointing at this years line up for the Musicport festival and the music that will be filling the halls and theatres of Bridlington's Spa, during the forthcoming Musicport Festival 23-25th October. Celebrating its tenth anniversary the festival is one of the key festivals for world music in the UK. This year highlights include Sudanese Voodoo; Monks from the Tashi Lhunpo Monastry; The Last Master of the Biram from Niger, Mamane Barka; John Peel's favourite reggae band Misty in Roots; saviour of the English folk scene and winner of the critics album of the year for 2008, Jim Moray; two great bands on a reunion tour, The Ukranians and Les Quatre Etoiles; plus many musicians from Yorkshire. Musicport 09Its already looking to be another eclectic and stimulating line-up for this year's Musicport festival. 1 Venue, 1 Weekend, 4 Stages and over 40 acts. Taking place at the Spa in Bridlington, this is when the world comes to the east coast of England. Music form Chile, Jamaica, New Zealand, Syria, Cape Verde, The Ukraine, Sudan, Niger, Brazil, Gambia, Holland, Malawi plus more acts still to be confirmed. Read on for just a few of our tips for the festival:

Yusa | Lightgarden support | Whitby Date

Yusa, the Young star of Cuban music with a recent release on Tumi records, returns to Whitby with her band this time.

Head North for a New Season of Friday nights at the Compass Club

A whole season of new Compass Club music events starts this month at the Coliseum, Whitby. Musicport organiser Jim McLaughlin said " It's good to have found a new home for these events and having used the Coliseum on several occasions before we know it offers the flexible space we need for the wide variety of music (and more) on offer."

The first 8 concert programme of the year includes appearances by John Otway & Wild Willy Barrett , the Cuban singer Yusa & the lead singer of The Inspiral Carpets.

Tashi Lhunpo Monks and Lightgarden free performance

monks imageIn the run up to the festival Musicport are promoting a free performance by the exiled Monks Of The Tashi Lhunpo Monastery in Tibet together with Lightgarden in the lovely setting of Sewerby Hall, Bridlington on Saturday 4th October at 2pm.
