Album of the week : Big Musik from Out There! by Rafiki Jazz on Koni Music

Welcome to another round the world music adventure with its compass pointing at this years line up for the Musicport festival and the music that will be filling the halls and theatres of Bridlington's Spa, during the forthcoming Musicport Festival 23-25th October. Celebrating its tenth anniversary the festival is one of the key festivals for world music in the UK. This year highlights include Sudanese Voodoo; Monks from the Tashi Lhunpo Monastry; The Last Master of the Biram from Niger, Mamane Barka; John Peel's favourite reggae band Misty in Roots; saviour of the English folk scene and winner of the critics album of the year for 2008, Jim Moray; two great bands on a reunion tour, The Ukranians and Les Quatre Etoiles; plus many musicians from Yorkshire. Rafiki Jazz have got the studio booked for a full CD recording in February. We're going to enjoy a new expanded line up with beatboxing from O Li & berimbau from Guery Tibirica joining the crew. And Mim & Juldeh Camara join the crew again straight from recording the the follow up to the award wining Soul Science CD with Justin Adams at Real World studios.. Rafiki Jazz is an ambitious collaborative venture featuring world musicians from Yorkshire’s growing community of migrant and refugee artists alongside some of the region’s finest roots and jazz players & singers, plus some very special guests. Live performances promise an electrifying collision of cross continental cultures, where the sounds of key acoustic heritage instruments mix it up with an ecstatic babble of languages, voices & stories….plus thundering beats ‘n’ bass technology!
