Orchestra Baobab Live in the UK three dates for January 2012

After three years away the mighty Orchestra Baobab are making a long awaited return to the UK to play a handful of live dates in January 2012. One of the defining acts in contemporary African music, Orchestra Baobab, first formed in 1970, fused Senegal’s formerly predominant Afro-Cuban sounds with Congolese rumba, Ghanaian high life, griot singing and other local styles. New release for Nuru Kane, Number One Bus, on Iris Records

Press Release : New release, Number One Bus ,for Senegalese singer Nuru Kane, who came to prominence after his Festival in the Desert appearance in 2004. Attracting the attention of Riverboat Records who signed him up for his first international release, "Sigil", which came out in 2006. Senegalese musician Diabel Cissokho is part of a griot family of musicians with a rich musical heritage. Growing up in Dakar he started off performing on a number of different traditional instruments in his family’s band.
However, his particular talent and affinity for the kora, which he started playing at the age of 9, was obvious from the beginning. Read more »

Melstar finds Gokh-Bi System's “Voice of the Jeli” a very more-ish album, a wonderful accomplishment. “Voice of the Jeli” is soothing yet upbeat, using the gentle rhythmic melodies of the ekonting to give Gokh Bi System their distinctive sound. With plenty of infectious beats and heartfelt lyrics, the album quickly had her reaching for the repeat button.
