We're absolutely thrilled at GondwanaSound to find out that Sue Miller is the winner of the British Ethnomusicology Forum's 2009 prize for the best student paper. Presented at the 2009 annual conference hosted by Liverpool John Moores University, Sue's paper is entitled, "The Thieving Magpie ": Musical Borrowing, Quotes and Signifiers in Cuban Charanga Improvisation. Charanga Del Norte, the UK's only Charanga Band are to perform at Barnsley Civic Theatre on Saturday 7 November at 8pm. Prior to the concert Guillermo Davis, the band's master Cuban professional dancer will give a dance workshop for everyone to join in and learn some steps!

Sue Miller joined the audience at the London's Barbican for Eliades Ochoa in Concert. Support came from the London Lucumi choir led by its creator Daniela Rosselson and Cuban singer and dancer Martha Galarraga with a bata drum ensemble led by Dave Pattman.
Sue Miller discovers someone who's been causing quite a stir in his adopted home of the Netherlands. His latest album, 'Oido al Tambora' a "mid-tempo vocal and trombone-led Salsa" is one for the dancers.
