Dub Colossus was inspired by meeting, writing and working with singers and musicians in Addis Ababa in August 2006. A collaboration between Dubulah (Nick Page) and an amazing array of musicians covering Azmari and traditional styles as well as the popular singing styles of the 60s and 70s.... The fifth Wychwood Festival usually marks the start of the green field festival season. Bathed in sunshine with some great acts including, Dub Colossus, Kissmet, Justin Adams and Juldeh Camara, Bellowhead amongst others, Adrian Phillips and Lisa Coleman sent their report for GondwanaSound.
Transglobal Underground founder member Count Dubullah (aka Nick Page) blends Ethiopian traditional music, 60s and 70s Ethiojazz and the dub reggae sound of the Abyssinians, the Mighty Diamonds and Sun Ra, with a 12-piece band featuring, direct from Ethiopia, 'Mimi' Zenebe (‘the Ethiopian Edith Piaf’), Tsedenia Gebremarkos (Best East African Female Singer, Kora Awards), Teremage Woretow (on Mesenqo, one-string fiddle), Ethiojazz pianist Samuel Yirga, and Feleke Hailu (judge of Ethiopian Idol).
