Sam has a wealth of experience in the folk world, he has been going to and playing at folk festivals before he could walk! In 1999 He won a BBC Young Folk Award with the band 422. Gary’s musical journey began in the jazz world and moved very slowly into the world music sphere. on the way he took a detour and entered the pop world with The Beautiful South which lasted 12 years. This brought him to Hull where he had the good fortune to meet Sam.
Etran Finatawa’s musicians come from Niger which is one of the three poorest countries in the world, it is a landlocked country in West Africa bordered by Mali, Algeria, Libya, Chad and Nigeria. Niger has a very rich cultural heritage and sits at a desert crossroads between the Berber and Arab cultures of the North and the many sub-Saharan cultures of the South.
