We are delighted to have Sam Pirt and Gary Hammond of The Hut People returning to the Lift, their performance was a highlight of last July’s Weekend Special. They will be joined by Frankie Banham and Pete Jack of Mambo Jambo and together they perform as Forro Porro.

Press release form Fellside : The Hut People are Sam Pirt accordion and Gary Hammond percussion who release their debut album,Home Is Where the Hut Is Sam has a wealth of experience in the folk world, he has been going to and playing at folk festivals before he could walk! In 1999 He won a BBC Young Folk Award with the band 422. Gary’s musical journey began in the jazz world and moved very slowly into the world music sphere. on the way he took a detour and entered the pop world with The Beautiful South which lasted 12 years. This brought him to Hull where he had the good fortune to meet Sam.

Etran Finitawa and The Hut People double bill, Glossop

Etran Finatawa’s musicians come from Niger which is one of the three poorest countries in the world, it is a landlocked country in West Africa bordered by Mali, Algeria, Libya, Chad and Nigeria. Niger has a very rich cultural heritage and sits at a desert crossroads between the Berber and Arab cultures of the North and the many sub-Saharan cultures of the South.

Supporting them for the Glossop date are Hull's Hut People, with a penchant for peoples photos of huts, Gary and Sam combine percussion and accordian with amazing results.
