Idrissa Soumaoro, is back with Djitoumou and number 1 in the European World Music charts

Press Release: New release, Djitoumou from Idrissa Soumaoro. Knight of the National Order of Mali, in recognition of his services to music, yet at over sixty years of age has only released two albums. His early career embraced membership of Les Ambassadeurs alongside Manfila Kanté and Salif Keita, mentoring Amadou Bagayoko (of Amadou & Mariam) and playing with Ali Farka Toure. He wrote one of Africa’s most famous songs Ancien Combattant (War Veteran), but did not earn royalties as he had not copyrighted the song. Read main article for full press release. Read more »

News in from LusAfrica: She's back, Cesaria has a new album Nha Sentimento ! Cesaria Evora began her career as a singer in Mindelo on the island of São Vicente more than forty-five years ago. Aged just twenty, she was already singing of romantic disappointments and the remoteness of the Cape Verde islands, expressing a remarkable melancholy that is illustrated by recordings made at the time, reissued at the end of 2008 on an album simplt titled, 'Radio Mindelo'. Entrenched in a saudade of universal appeal, settling quietly over her windswept islands, this Atlantic melancholy remains Cesaria Evora’s trademark. Read more »
