The very first AfroTurf was a successful night of drum skin bending, tequila slamming and tail feather shaking courtesy of DJ Jen Wah Zee who has a foot in the London scene and her heart set on entertaining Sheffield's city centre party crowds. The Bungalow's and Bears crowd were entertained by two live acts, Sheffield based Mim Suleiman and London based band, The Worm plus DJ Jen Wah Zee who kept the crowds dancing to her blend of Afrobeat.
The seeds have been sewn and it's fertile ground for Bungalows and Bears' latest event, Afroturf. Afroturf is to be monthly event, showcasing the finest of UK afrobeat, funk, soul, jazz and pickings from the four corners of the global lawn. Afroturf will be digging the soils to bring the underground overground, hosting live acts inspired by some of the richest musical cultures across the world.

. First the bad news; this has to be one of the worst CD covers I’ve seen in years, which is strange given the high quality visuals that most Real World releases exhibit. However, the good news is that the sounds therein are quite splendid.
