We're particularly keen to hear from promoters, agents, musicians putting events on across Yorkshire.

4th July 2009 :
Sharrow Festival, Sheffield inc Sajid Ahmed Khan Qawwali Group, Robert Maseko and Abelwell

The Sharrow Festival runs from 20th June to 4th July this year, culminating in a day event at Mount Pleasant Park with many fringe events organised in between. Amongst the music acts booked for the day are: Sajid Ahmed Khan Qawwali Group, Abelwell reggae band and Robert Maseko and his Congo Beats plus local bands, Mojo and the Beatniks and the Nazdrove House band plus more.

8th July 2009:
Dub Colossus in a Town Called Addis

Transglobal Underground founder member Dub Colossus (aka Nick Page) blends Ethiopian traditional music, 60s and 70s Ethiojazz and the dub reggae sound of the Abyssinians, the Mighty Diamonds and Sun Ra, with a 12-piece band featuring, direct from Ethiopia, 'Mimi' Zenebe (‘the Ethiopian Edith Piaf’), Tsedenia Gebremarkos (Best East African Female Singer, Kora Awards), Teremage Woretow (on Mesenqo, one-string fiddle), Ethiojazz pianist Samuel Yirga, and Feleke Hailu (judge of Ethiopian Idol).

Totley Music Festival

It's not world music, but it's a great selection of events, from 1st - 11th July. Highlights could possibly be squeeezing in to Rony Robinson's loft for a night of Dylan ( Bob that is), The Djangonauts brand of Gypsy Swing, part of a Jazz night at the Fleur de Lys on the 5th and the ever entertaining Bob Hall at the Crown. 11th July 2009 :
Etran Finitawa and The Hut People double bill, Glossop

Etran Finatawa’s musicians come from Niger which is one of the three poorest countries in the world, it is a landlocked country in West Africa bordered by Mali, Algeria, Libya, Chad and Nigeria. Niger has a very rich cultural heritage and sits at a desert crossroads between the Berber and Arab cultures of the North and the many sub-Saharan cultures of the South.

Supporting them for the Glossop date are Hull's Hut People, with a penchant for peoples photos of huts, Gary and Sam combine percussion and accordian with amazing results.

15th July 2009:
Chumbawumba | Otley Date

Chumbawumba deliver harmony voices, guitars, brass & accordian. A mix of traditional English folk, a-cappella song and skewed pop; from great tales of history rebellion to cutting contemporary satire.

Chilli Fried present the Zawose Family

WOMAD regulars will be familiar with the exuberent character of the late Dr Hukwe Zawose, master of traditional wagogo music from Tanzania. His children have picked up his mantle and ensure that his music lives on. Vibrant music, ostrich feathers, drums and thumb pianos. Rave reviews follow them around. A chance to see them in London as part of their 2009 tour.

Johnny and the Prison Didn't Help Boys bring a slice of Americana with a twist....their unique brand of New-Timey Country-Rock Folk Blues evolved into the legendary live act it has become. Now, armed with a fistful of excellent songs, interesting arrangements and a unique sound, Johnny etc are currently riding the New Wave of Old Music with aplomb, a key board, several guitars, a mandolin and two fiddles.

The Soweto Gospel Choir were formed to celebrate the powerful and inspirational tradition of African gospel music, the 26-member, multi Grammy Award-winning choir, under the direction of choirmaster David Mulovhedzi, have an unparalleled international reputation as one of the world’s great choirs. Drawing on the best musical talents from the many churches and communities in and around Soweto, the magnificent choir perform a programme of traditional and contemporary African and international gospel.

13th September 2009:
Tango Fire dance show at Liverpool Philharmonic Hall
