The Sharrow Festival runs from 20th June to 4th July this year, culminating in a day event at Mount Pleasant Park with many fringe events organised in between. Amongst the music acts booked for the day are: Sajid Ahmed Khan Qawwali Group, Abelwell reggae band and Robert Maseko and his Congo Beats plus local bands, Mojo and the Beatniks and the Nazdrove House band plus more.
Transglobal Underground founder member Dub Colossus (aka Nick Page) blends Ethiopian traditional music, 60s and 70s Ethiojazz and the dub reggae sound of the Abyssinians, the Mighty Diamonds and Sun Ra, with a 12-piece band featuring, direct from Ethiopia, 'Mimi' Zenebe (‘the Ethiopian Edith Piaf’), Tsedenia Gebremarkos (Best East African Female Singer, Kora Awards), Teremage Woretow (on Mesenqo, one-string fiddle), Ethiojazz pianist Samuel Yirga, and Feleke Hailu (judge of Ethiopian Idol).
Etran Finatawa’s musicians come from Niger which is one of the three poorest countries in the world, it is a landlocked country in West Africa bordered by Mali, Algeria, Libya, Chad and Nigeria. Niger has a very rich cultural heritage and sits at a desert crossroads between the Berber and Arab cultures of the North and the many sub-Saharan cultures of the South.
Chumbawumba deliver harmony voices, guitars, brass & accordian. A mix of traditional English folk, a-cappella song and skewed pop; from great tales of history rebellion to cutting contemporary satire.
WOMAD regulars will be familiar with the exuberent character of the late Dr Hukwe Zawose, master of traditional wagogo music from Tanzania. His children have picked up his mantle and ensure that his music lives on. Vibrant music, ostrich feathers, drums and thumb pianos. Rave reviews follow them around. A chance to see them in London as part of their 2009 tour.

Drawing on the best musical talents from the many churches and communities in and around Soweto, the magnificent choir perform a programme of traditional and contemporary African and international gospel.
